Solution to: Number Keypad of Keyboard Not Working in Windows 8.1

Symptoms: Number keypad (the number pad at the right hand side of the keyboard) does not work. When “Num Lock” key is pressed (and Num Lock indicator is lit”, number does not appear when the keys are pressed.

This solution assumes that the number pad of keyboard is not damaged physically. This solution further assumes that keyboard is not working only in either Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 and works fine with other versions of Microsoft Windows.

The typical symptom of this misconfiguration in the settings is that instead of inputting or printing numbers when number pad is pressed, the pointer moves.

Solution: Disable “use numeric keypad to move mouse around the screen” option.

1. Go to settings>ease of access.

2. Under “mouse” turn off “use numeric keypad to move mouse around the screen option.

How to disable "use of numeric keypad to move mouse around the screen"

3. Voila! Number pad is working again. Hope this helps.
