How to Unhide Files Hidden by Virus

When drives are infected with certain types of computer virus or when a flash drive is inserted into an infected computer, files could be hidden for which the option to unhide them using the right click button (with a mouse) is greyed out or disabled. However, there are means to unhide them, even removing their read-only and system attributes, using “Command Prompt”.
     To unhide the files:

  1. Open “Command Prompt” through the start menu or by pressing the windows key + r and typing the letters “cmd”.
  2. Command Prompt will open. Type the drive location of the files for which you would like to unhide. (e.g. L: ) and press enter.
  3. Type the letters –s –h /s /d.
  4. Press enter.
  5. Wait.
  6. Voila. Files unhidden.
